COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A Colorado Springs-based nonprofit plans to donate 15 bikes to children who were affected by last summer’s Waldo Canyon Fire.
The group Kids on Bikes will make the donation Saturday to children whose bikes burned in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood in Colorado Springs.
Money for the bikes was raised by The Kurt Rogers Memorial Ride, named for a 34-year-old Colorado Springs native who died in May 2005 while mountain biking in Moab, Utah.
The Waldo Canyon Fire killed two people and destroyed more than 340 homes, most of which were in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood. The blaze was the most destructive in state history.
