DENVER (CBS4)- The man who admitted to causing and driving away from a deadly crash last year has been sentenced to the maximum sentence.
Jesus Armenta had previously pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
Armenta, 22, was sentenced to six years in prison and was ordered to pay $14,120 in restitution.
Just a little more than one year ago, Feb. 11, 2012, Armenta was traveling southbound on Federal Blvd. at a high rate of speed when he collided with a Dodge Neon near Alameda Avenue.
The collision caused the Neon to cross into the northbound lanes of Federal where it was struck by another vehicle.
The driver of the Neon, 80-year-old Maximinio Gallegos was seriously injured. His wife, 74-year-old Carmelita Gallegos was also hurt and later died from her injuries.
Armenta drove away from the crash but was identified and arrested a short time later. He will face deportation once his prison sentence is served.
