Fort Carson Plans Prescribed Burns

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - Fort Carson fire crews are preparing to burn piles of tree limbs produced by forest thinning.

The post says the prescribed burns will start Friday and continue through March.

About 250 piles made up of branches smaller than three inches in diameter will be burned.

The thinning and prescribed burns are designed to reduce heavy vegetation that could fuel a wildfire.

The burns are governed by permits issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and are done in coordination with El Paso and Las Animas counties.
