Milan Hejduk To Play In 1,000th Career Hockey Game

DENVER (AP/CBS4) - Colorado Avalanche forward Milan Hejduk will play his 1,000th NHL game Monday.

Hejduk will become the first player in franchise history to play 1,000 regular season games in an Avalanche jersey. The 36-year old will be only the second player in Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise history to skate in 1,000 regular season games, joining Joe Sakic, who dressed in 1,378 games (508 with Quebec, 870 with Colorado).

"I'm very happy I played for one organization, that's definitely special; 1,000 games, stay healthy and show some decent level of play so that the team keeps you," Hejduk told CBS4. "

"When our young players come into this organization they should look at him and try to model themselves after," Avs head coach Joe Sacco said. "(He's) prepared, he's fit, he's always in great shape, and he just does things the right way. He goes about his business in the right fashion every day. So it's a great accomplishment for a great person."

Hejduk, an alternate captain, will be honored before Monday night's home game against the Dallas Stars.
