ELBERT, Colo. (CBS4)- An entire school in Elbert has been closed because of widespread illness.
School administrators of the Elbert School District were concerned that so many students and staff had become ill that the quality of education was suffering.
The Elbert School has 210 students in K-12 and approximately 40 staff.
So many teachers and students were out sick with coughing, fever and flu-like symptoms the school decided to close at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
While the classrooms are empty staff will clean and disinfect the desks, chairs, bathrooms, walls and all other surfaces.
The school district continues to encourage washing hands and following up with family physicians. Those who are diagnosed with an illness are urged to remain home to recuperate.
All extracurricular activity including games or practice have also been cancelled and will resume Feb. 4. Classes will resume Feb. 5.
