COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – A Florida sheriff’s office is trying to find out why it issued an arrest warrant for a grandmother in Colorado Springs.
Katie Wilson spent five days in jail after Colorado Springs police received the warrant.
It all started almost 40 years ago when Wilson was arrested for credit card fraud in Orange County. She says she didn’t know the woman she was traveling with had stolen cards.
Wilson didn’t fight the charge, served probation and moved on — until police showed up last week.
“I was terrified. I was shaking uncontrollably. I wasn’t even aware that I was crying; tears were just pouring down my face,” Wilson said.
“All I could do was dedicate myself to saving her,” Wilson’s husband Jim said. “I didn’t eat, I didn’t sleep, and we got her back.”
Colorado Springs police say they were simply doing their job and once they received the warrant they had to arrest Wilson.
