2 Charged After Weapons Cache Found

DENVER (CBS4) - Two men have been charged with weapons and drug charges after a cache of weapons was discovered in a Denver home.

Bryan Carver has been charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and 28 counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Michael Byrd has been charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Parole officers conducted a parole check on Dec. 19, 2012 at a home in the 200 block of S. Stuart Street. They found and confiscated 14 firearms including three AK-47s, a large amount of ammunition and narcotics.

Carver and Byrd were arrested as they tried to run away out the back of the home.

"This is the kind of intervention that will help keep our streets safer," said Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey. "We acknowledge the good work of the parole officers who played a pivotal role in getting these guns off the street."

Carver and Byrd remain in custody in the Denver Detention Center. Carver's bond is set at $50,000 and Byrd's bond is set at $5,000.

They are scheduled to appear in Denver County Courtroom on Feb. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
