Smoking Ban On Pearl Street Mall Goes Into Effect In Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder is now banning smoking on the Pearl Street Mall.
A new law passed last month prohibits smoking on the four blocks of the mall and the lawn of the Boulder County Courthouse.
First-time offenders could face up to $500 in fines. Police plan to issue warnings at first.
Supporters say the ban will reduce litter and protect people from the health effects of secondhand smoke. Opponents say it will discourage visitors.
