GOP Business Idea Dies Hasty Death In Legislature
DENVER (AP) - A Republican proposal aimed at reducing business regulations has died a hasty death in the Colorado Legislature, where Democrats say the proposal is well intentioned but unnecessary.
A Senate committee voted Wednesday to reject a bill that would have required state analysts to prepare "business fiscal impact" statements about how certain bills would affect businesses.
Republican sponsors say the extra analysis papers would help lawmakers understand the burden of regulations on private industry.
Democrats rejected the idea. They say businesses are already free to tell lawmakers how bills affect them. Democrats also say the extra analysis would be unnecessary red tape.
This year's "business fiscal impact" died on a 3-2 party-line vote.
