Police Have Person Of Interest In Murder Of Fort Carson Soldier, Wife

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) - A burglar apparently shot and killed two people inside a Colorado Springs home before he fled.

Colorado Springs police say they believe a burglar was inside a home Monday when the residents returned home. Authorities say there was a confrontation and both residents were shot dead.

The victims have been identified as David Dunlap, 37, a Fort Carson soldier, and his wife Whitney M. Butler, 35.

Police searched the neighborhood with tracking dogs after the bodies were discovered. They were called to the neighborhood on a call of gunfire.

Investigators say they have a person of interest but no arrest has been made.

Fort Carson released this statement regarding the deaths of the Dunlap couple, "Fort Carson, the 4th Infantry Division and the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade are deeply saddened by this event and wish to extend condolences, and offer heartfelt thoughts and prayers, to the Families, friends and fellow Soldiers who have been affected by this terrible incident. Local Army chaplains and Military and Family Life consultants stand ready to provide assistance to any Family members or Soldiers in need of support or counseling."
