NIWOT, Colo. (CBS4) – Firefighters had a hard time battling a house fire that broke out in Niwot Sunday afternoon.
Fire crews arrived at the home around 1 p.m. They found smoke pouring from the windows and the roof. At one point firefighters had to back off the fire because there were no fire hydrants in the area, so crews had to bring in water.
Deputy Chief Steve Pischke said it wasn’t a traditional home.
“About two or three years ago they moved a home in here, and since then they’ve been building, adding on to it, putting a roof over a roof, walls over walls; and that’s what’s causing all of the problems right now,” Pischke said. “We’ve fire in between these spaces.”
Fire investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire. Nobody was hurt, but one family was displaced.
Niwot is located northeast of Boulder.
