TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Carrick Felix scored 20 points, Jordan Bachynski had 16 points and nine blocked shots, and Arizona State pulled away from cold-shooting Colorado down the stretch to beat the Buffaloes 65-56 on Sunday night.

Jonathan Gilling added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun Devils (13-2, 2-0 Pac-12), who started their conference season 2-0 for the first time in five years.

Spencer Dinwiddie led the Buffaloes with 19 points. Askia Booker added 13.

Colorado (10-4, 0-2) led 20-7 early and 33-30 at the half but fell apart over an eight-minute second-half stretch three nights after they appeared to have beaten No. 3 Arizona on Sabatino Chen’s 3-point bank shot at the buzzer, only to have officials wave off the basket after a video review. The call has been second-guessed across the country.

Arizona State won despite a low-scoring game from freshman Jahii Carson, the team’s leading scorer of the season at 17.5 points per game. Carson was 1 of 4 shooting and scored five points all in the last 5 1/2 minutes.

Colorado shot 35 percent, just 26 percent (10 for 38) in the second half.

The Buffaloes led 17-4, then were outscored 61-39 after that.

Arizona State took the lead for good 44-41 on Chris Colvin’s 3-pointer with 10:23 to play. The shot ignited a 14-2 run that made it 55-43 when Felix made one of two free throws with 3:30 to play.

Xavier Johnson’s rebound basket cut the lead to 58-53 with 1:14 to play, but Bachynski’s two free throws with 52.1 seconds remaining ended any doubt of the outcome.

Colorado, which took a 30-13 lead at Arizona, shot out to its 17-4 lead as Arizona State made just 2 of its first 13 field goal tries. But the Sun Devils went 9 of 11 the rest of the half and were down 33-30 at the half.

Arizona State’s seldom-used Bo Barnes made a 3-pointer, his first points of the season, but Dinwiddie followed with a three-point play and Colorado led 20-7 with 9:02 left in the half.

Gilling was fouled on a 3-pointer and made all three from the line to begin the Sun Devils’ methodical climb back into the game.

Felix scored eight straight Arizona State points in one stretch, his 3-pointer cutting the lead to 29-24.

Josh Scott sank a 17-footer to put the Buffaloes up 31-24 2:56 from the break, then Arizona State reeled off six in a row. Bachynski blocked two shots, then scrambled, threw his 7-foot-2 frame onto the court to force a jump ball and dunked at the other end on Chris Colvin’s fourth assist of the half to cut the lead to 31-30 before Dinwiddie’s driving layup made it a three-point Colorado lead at the half.
