PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) – A Pueblo police officer is recovering from a gunshot wound after an early-morning shootout that left the suspected gunman dead.

CBS4 partner KKTV reports that an officer was shot at about 3 a.m. Tuesday by a man fleeing a car the officer was pursuing. The officer wasn’t immediately identified but was reportedly hospitalized in stable condition.

The station reports that the officer heard gunshots, went to investigate and then chased a vehicle that sped off. More than one person fled the car on foot when it crashed.

After the officer was shot, the suspected gunman fled on foot. Another officer saw the suspect and shot and killed him near Highway 50. The suspect wasn’t immediately named.
