COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – Those who want to forget the New Year’s Eve tradition of packing into a crowded bar to get a glass of champagne before the stroke of midnight are hiking to the summit of Pikes Peak.

The Pikes Peak AdAmAn Club has been climbing the 14,000-foot peak near Colorado Springs to ring in the new year since 1922. They also set off fireworks at the stroke of midnight.

The group set off for the summit early Sunday morning.
