Hit & Run Driver Sentenced To 22 Years In Prison

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- A man convicted of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a deadly accident was sentenced to more than two decades in prison on Friday.

Viet Nguyen was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in the crash.

Nguyen was drinking when he crashed into and killed Jenna Breen in Westminster in January. Breen was on her way home from work when she was struck by Nguyen's vehicle.

Nguyen ran away from the crash but police caught up to him a short time later.

Breen's mother, Gail Parrish, said she can live with the sentence but the harsh reality is her daughter is never coming back.

"Nothing will bring Jenna back so to say it's just there really is no justice. I hope it's keep him away from the community for a long time and it is what it is and we're happy. Well, nobody is happy," said Parrish.

Defense Attorney said Nguyen's family also suffered a great loss.

"They feel the same sense of loss. Obviously you don't compare percentages but they've suffered loss also. Of no fault of their own," said Defense Attorney Tim LaQuey.

Parrish is pushing for stricter punishment for drivers who flee the scene of an accident.
