Colorado Leaders Sign 'Colorado Compact' For Immigration Reform

DENVER (CBS4) - A group of Colorado leaders got together Sunday to support an immigration reform compact.

It's been a year in the making and on Sunday the Colorado Compact was unveiled.

Supporters hope the reform will grant legal status to foreign workers and undocumented immigrants on a federal level.

Sen. Michael Bennet spearheaded the effort.

"Each of you here today and every single person and organization and business that has signed the Colorado Compact has done so because we know that the status quo is not working and is in obvious need of repair," Bennet said.

Compact signers say even though the document is not legally binding, it sends a message to Washington that Colorado wants meaningful immigration reform.

Supporters say the reform will strengthen business in Colorado as well as helps ensure national security.
