BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A company in Boulder wants to send you to the moon– for a big price.
Golden Spike is offering your foot print on the moon during its commercial space travel program.
A round trip to the moon for two is $1.5 billion. The offer is for corporations, individuals and other nations.
“I was basically an instructor on the Space Shuttle,” said Metro State Aviation and Aerospace Asst. Professor Tanya Gatlin.
Gatlin’s job was to train astronauts as well as the people in mission control.
“I think they’ve got a great chance of being successful,” said Gatlin.
“Their primary target is foreign space companies and foreign space agencies and I’ve heard that they’ve already got 15 to 20 solid leads lined up between now and 2020.”
Golden Spike still needs a spacecraft, its own lunar lander and specifically-designed spacesuits.
Alan Stern is the president and CEO of Golden Spike. He’s also a former director of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
“If anybody could pull it off it’s Alan Stern,” said Gatlin.
Golden Spike is not in competition with NASA. Right now NASA’s space program is focused on sending people to Mars.
