Former Estes Park Light & Power Superintendent Suspected Of Embezzlement

ESTES PARK, Colo. (CBS4)- The former superintendent of the Town of Estes Park's Light & Power utility has been arrested for embezzlement of public property.

Larimer County Sheriff's deputies claim that Todd Steichen made arrangements for leftover copper wire to be sold and the money used to pay for a project party. The money was also used as bonuses for non-town employees doing work for the utility.

This was done without the approval of the Light & Power utilities director and did not follow town policies.

After an administrative review of the allegations the Town of Estes Park placed Steichen, 48, on paid leave on Nov. 1. He resigned his position on Nov. 5.

Steichen was booked into the Loveland Police Department and released on a $10,000 bond.
