Man Shot By Southern Ute Police

IGNACIO, Colo. (AP) — A man who ran after police officers with a bat has been shot and wounded by Southern Ute police.

La Plata County sheriff's spokesman Dan Bender says the shooting occurred early Wednesday when Southern Ute Police Department investigators were following up on a reported assault.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Anthony Martinez, who lives in Ignacio.

Bender says the man's injuries are not life-threatening. Bender says deputies are investigating because Martinez is not a tribal member.
