COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) – The district attorney is taking over the investigation after a family’s pet was shot and killed by a police officer in Commerce City.

The shooting happened on Saturday. The officer says the pit bull mix was acting aggressively before he opened fire.

The dog’s owner says his pet was not acting out and shouldn’t have been shot.

Commerce City police asked the district attorney’s office to take the investigation to make sure there is an unbiased review.
