COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A new panhandling law in Colorado Springs will prohibit the El Paso County Salvation Army from bell ringing downtown.
The Gazette reports that the new law that received initial approval Tuesday will affect one downtown site. Sixty other sites are unaffected.
The El Paso County Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign raised $68,000 last year and accounts for about 15 percent of the organization’s income. Money raised from donations goes to help homeless and low-income residents.
