NUNN, Colo. (AP) — A northern Colorado town known for its historic water tower is getting a new tank that will actually hold water.
Nunn’s water tower proclaiming its ambitious slogan, “Watch Nunn Grow”, is a landmark to drivers traveling between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyo. on U.S. Highway 85. However, the 91-year-old leaky tank isn’t usable so the town is set to break ground Saturday on a new tower.
Town clerk Cathy Payne told the Greeley Tribune that the new 180,000-gallon, golf-ball shaped tank probably won’t have the slogan printed on it. However, the town of 420 people plans to keep the old tank and has gotten a preservation grant to shore it up.
The old tank hasn’t held water in several years, which forced firefighters to tap into the regular water supply during a blaze in September.
