Hundreds Of Fort Carson Soldiers Return Home, Some For Final Time

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4) - After nearly nine months away from their families, hundreds of Fort Carson soldiers are back home.

The 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division returned from Afghanistan to the Colorado Springs base on Monday night. The soldiers performed security operations in mountainous terrain along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. While deployed, the soldiers had responsibility over a 10,000 square mile area.

The troops' return held special significance because it took place on Veteran's Day weekend.

Jared Hamby's return was poignant because it was probably the last one like it for him and his family. He says the Army has told him he won't be returning to an overseas war zone.

Hamby said it was "surreal" being back with his family, and he looks forward to spending lots of time with them and hopefully doing some camping.

Many of the troops returning to Fort Carson told CBS4 that in addition to lots of family time, they are looking forward to eating quality food.
