DENVER (CBS4) – It’s the tree that will be showcased at the U.S. Capitol for the holidays and on Sunday the Colorado-grown spruce tree made a stop in Denver.
Dozens of people came out to see the 70-foot tree before it heads to Washington, D.C. The tree was grown in Meeker.
Sunday’s festivities included music, crafts and a donation center for toys.
The U.S. Forest Service says it’s the third time a Colorado tree has been chosen as the centerpiece for the tree lighting ceremony
“It’s a great honor. It revolves around from one national forest to another, and this year it was Colorado’s chance to do that,” Ken Coffin with the U.S. Forest Service said.
The tree will make stops in 28 more cities before arriving in Washington at the end of the month.
