Arrest Made In Connection With Death Of Lakewood Officer

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A man is in the Jefferson County Jail after being arrested in connection with the accidental shooting of a Lakewood police officer.

Early Friday morning, police heard about shots fired at 19th and Eaton. Someone inside a home fired a shot and police fired back. A Lakewood officer accidentally shot and killed fellow officer Jim Davies.

Officials announced Sunday that the owner of the home, Joe Anthony Ruiz, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon by a previous offender and tampering with physical evidence.

Police say Ruiz fired the gun into the air and brought the police response.

The district attorney will decide on charges later this week.

Davies' funeral will take place on Thursday morning. It will start at 10 a.m. at the Denver First Church of the Nazarene on East Hampden Ave in Englewood.
