George Lucas signing the deal (credit: CBS)
DENVER (CBS4) – It is one of the biggest deals in Hollywood history — a company that changed Hollywood 35 years ago has just become part of a company that changed Hollywood 80 years ago.
CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody reported on the deal that takes “Star Wars” to the mouse factory.
“This is a big deal because, once again, it is a changing of the guard — part of what I’ve always seen as a 35-year Hollywood cycle,” Moody said. “New talent rises, breaks the mold, Hollywood follows suit, the new talent grows old and tries to hang on while the new talent rises again.”
Moody says George Lucas selling Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise to Disney is that changing of the guard.
“Where both were cutting edge at one time, now Disney hopes to bring new life — money and merchandising — into that galaxy so far, far away,” Moody said.
