DENVER (CBS4) – A man charged in a cold case sexual assault has been found guilty.
Francisco Charles, 33, who also is known as Francisco Hernandez, was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of second-degree kidnapping.
Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver District Attorney’s Office said on Nov. 1, 2001, Charles attacked a 29-year-old woman as she was walking in the 1500 block of Broadway and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint.
“The case remained unsolved until it was reviewed as part of Denver’s Cold Case Project and Charles was identified as a suspect through DNA,” Kimbrough said in a statement.
Charles is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing Jan. 3. He faces a sentence of up to life in prison.
