Big Stars Attend Fashion Show For Children With Down Syndrome
DENVER (CBS4) - It's a star-studded event for a great cause. The stage was set Saturday at the Sheraton hotel in downtown Denver for the annual Global Down Syndrome Foundation Fashion Show.
Every year organizers encourage the children to feel beautiful about themselves despite living with Down syndrome.
Appropriately titled "Be Beautiful, Be yourself," the children get to walk the runway at the big event just like supermodels. They're escorted by big name celebrities like Natasha Bedingfield, John McGinley, Jamie Foxx and music icon Quincy Jones.
Jones is a spokesperson for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
"I've been doing this all my life, wherever it is. If you're talking about dyslexia, ADD, or whatever sickness in children, period; I'm just interested in rug rats. I love rug rats," Jones said.
"I have quite a few friends who have children with Down syndrome, siblings with Down syndrome," Virginia Williams said. "I'm really, really stoked to just give all the kids a big hug and tell them how beautiful they look and watch them feel like supermodels for a night."
The fashion show is just a small part of the big event Saturday night. It's really about raising money for Down syndrome research and improving medical care for those with the condition. The night includes dinner and a silent auction.
The foundation is based in Denver and does work year round to help those in the community and all over the country living with Down syndrome.
