Boulder Police Arrest Man Suspected In More Than 50 Burglaries

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Boulder police have arrested a man suspected of committing more than 50 home burglaries in the University Hill area.

Kim Kobel with Boulder police said Daniel Stewart Cooper, 34, was arrested on Sept. 5. He's suspected in dozens of burglaries that were committed between April and September.

"Two victims of a residential burglary saw Cooper walking nearby carrying the victims' stolen backpack and laptop," Kobel said in a statement. "The victims contacted police, and although Cooper fled, police found him hiding in some bushes on University Avenue."

Kobel said Cooper fought with police and faces charges of obstructing a police officer, resisting a police officer, and second-degree assault on a police officer.

Cooper could be responsible for up to 100 burglaries. Police believe he was mainly looking for drugs but would steal electronics and other valuables.

"Cooper would help himself to food, alcohol, clean clothing, a shower and various personal toiletries," Kobel said. "In many instances, residents were home and asleep when Cooper entered."

Police also believe Cooper committed unlawful sexual contact of a woman and several vehicle thefts.
