Teen Accused Of Stealing Sheriff's SUV In Court

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The teenager arrested for going too slow on Interstate 70 and then slipping out of her handcuffs and leading police on a chase was in court for the first time Tuesday.

Shelby Figueroa, 18, had scratches and bruises all over her face after she crashed a jail transport SUV following a high-speed chase through Clear Creek and Summit counties. In court Tuesday it appeared many of those wounds had healed.

Figueroa is facing serious felony charges but she won't enter a plea for another month.

"Now that her attorney has entered his appearance we'll get him copies of all the police reports, all the information he needs to analyze the case," Deputy District Attorney Scott Turner said. "Then we'll discuss potential dispositions and how the case is going to proceed from there."

The arrest records show investigators believe Figueroa was drunk and high on cocaine when she stole the sheriff's department vehicle. It's her second DUI charge.
