FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – The police department in Fort Collins is going to give green a try as the department is testing out new all-electric motorcycles.
The new bikes cost a lot less than the current gas-powered models and require virtually no maintenance, and those savings add up.
“Just the initial cost and then overtime, the cost of not having maintenance overtime really pays off,” Lt. Hal Dean with Fort Collins Police Services said.
The model can go about 60 miles per hour and has a range of about 80 miles.
If the department decides to buy them the electric bikes would be used primarily for patrolling neighborhoods and traffic enforcement.
