More Time To Comment On Ski Village Land Swap

MONTE VISTA, Colo. (AP) — The public is getting 10 more days to comment on a proposal to swap U.S. forest land with a developer trying to build a village near the Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Rio Grande National Forest Supervisor Dan Dallas says more than 250 comments have been received so far, but environmental groups wanted more time for people to weigh in.

The public now has until Oct. 11 to comment.

A joint venture involving billionaire Red McCombs has been trying to get access across the Rio Grande National Forest from its land to U.S. 160. The proposal now open for public comment would have the joint venture swapping 178 of its acres surrounded by the forest with 204 federal acres that have access to the highway.
