Man Who Allegedly Attacked Parents With Hammer In Custody

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Englewood were searching for a man neighbors say attacked his parents, but reported Sunday afternoon that they now have him in custody.

No other details of the arrest were released.

Police said around 11:14 p.m. on Friday officers responded to a call about two people injured from an assault in the 4700 block of South Acoma Street.

"Upon arrival the officers located a 56-year-old female victim and a 59-year-old male victim," police said in a statement. "Both victims received serious bodily injury and one is listed in critical condition."

Codell Loats, 27, has been identified as a suspect in the assaults.

Neighbors say the couple had been living in a detached garage. Neighbor Kristina Cole said that a man ran over to her house saying his son had beaten him and his wife with a hammer.

"She had a big slash from (her forehead to her chin) and just blood everywhere," Cole said.

Cole said Loats fled on foot, was stopped by other neighbors, but got away.

"He ran down a couple blocks and some neighbors down there pinned him, but he squirmed his way out and ran again," Cole said.

There's no word on a possible motive.
