Investigators Try To Find Owner Of Gun In Accidental Fatal Shooting
EVANS, Colo. (CBS4) - Weld County investigators are trying to find out who owned a gun that was used in an accidental shooting near Evans.
Jordan Limas, 18, is facing a charge of criminally negligent homicide. He was arrested after his brother, Andre Limas, 11, was shot and killed.
The shooting happened Saturday night south of Greeley. The sheriff's office says Andre found the gun in Jordan's bedroom. Jordan says he told his brother the gun was not a toy and tried to stop him from leaving the room. There was a struggle and the gun went off, striking Andre in the chest.
The boys' father says the two boys were very close. He called the shooting nothing but a terrible accident.
"Never in our wildest dreams would we even think that Jordan would be capable of doing anything purposely," David Limas said. "We've got to focus on being here for our son Jordan."
Outside the family home friends gathered to remember Andre Saturday night.
The shooting has been ruled an accident. Jordan was released from jail after posting a $30,000 bond.
