EVANS, Colo. (CBS4)- A shooting that left one child dead started with a fight over a gun.
Weld County Sheriff’s Deputies said two brothers were fighting over a gun when the gun when off, shooting the 11-year-old in the chest and killing him.
He has not been identified.
Neighbors said the shooting victim idolized his older brother.
The shooting happened at about 5:15 p.m. Friday in the Hill-N-Park area in the 4200 block of Grand Teton Drive near Evans.
The boy was rushed to North Colorado Medical Center where he died at 6:19 p.m.
Deputies were waiting for a search warrant at about 10:20 p.m. to enter the home where the shooting happened.
They do not know who the gun belonged to.
Deputies are interviewing witnesses in the neighborhood and at the hospital. No arrests had been made as of 11 p.m. Friday.
Evans is located just a few miles south of Greeley.
