SAN LUIS, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a man wanted in connection with a homicide in Colorado has been arrested in southern Arizona.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say 35-year-old Consuelo Zavala was selected for additional questioning Tuesday when he attempted to enter Arizona through a pedestrian lane at the San Luis Port of Entry.
They say a records check showed Zavala was wanted on a homicide warrant out of Weld County, Colo. The Greeley Tribune reports that Zavala is accused of killing a field worker near Platteville in 1997.
He was arrested and turned over to San Luis police for extradition.
Customs officials didn’t know Wednesday whether Zavala had a lawyer yet.
