Wet Weather Slows Traffic, Causes Power Outages

DENVER (CBS4)- Xcel Energy crews worked to restore power to more than 3,500 people in the Park Hill area Wednesday morning after rain is believed to have caused a big power outage.

The power outage affected traffic lights and homes in the area around Holly and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at about 7:30 a.m. contributing to the already slow morning commute.

Downed power lines at 35th and Monaco Parkway were the cause of the outage.

Xcel Energy spokesman Gabriel Romero said the rainy, wet weather could be the cause of the downed power lines because after the recent dry weather we've experienced, the heavy rain can cause the power lines to become waterlogged and heavy.

Power was fully restored to all homes, businesses and traffic lights at about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.
