COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A 12-year-old girl is safe after she fell into a large cactus and could not get free.

Colorado Springs police said an officer was checking the area early Wednesday when she heard the girl calling for help.

Police found the girl and freed her from the cactus spines. The unidentified girl was taken to a hospital, where the extent of her injuries was not known.

Police say the girl apparently wandered away from her guardians.
