Man Dies After Getting Hit By Truck While Walking Along Colfax

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man has died in the hospital after an auto-pedestrian collision that occurred last week.

Lt. Charles DeShazer with Aurora police said the collision happened on Sept. 6 at approximately 8:40 am.

Enrique Garcia-Esquibel, 79, of Aurora, was walking along the south side of East Colfax Avenue and was crossing North Laredo Street, east to the west when he was hit by a truck driven by Christopher Osborn, 51, of Lakewood.

Esquibel suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he died on Monday.

"The investigation to date has shown that Mr. Esquibel was utilizing the pedestrian crosswalk and crossing signal to transverse the intersection," DeShazer said in a statement. "Mr. Osborn failed to see Mr. Esquibel during his turn."

Osborn remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police are waiting for a blood test to be returned to see of Osborn was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.
