EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) – The students at a middle school in Jefferson County got an unusual lesson in wildlife on Tuesday as the school was locked down because of a bear camped out nearby.
A CBS4 crew was on hand to see the bruin in a tree outside of Evergreen Middle School. The tree is just about 30 yards from the school fence and also near neighboring homes.
Another bear popped up Tuesday in Boulder near Fairview High School. Wildlife officers were able to scare that one away by shooting it with rubber bullets. The bear scampered off into an open space area nearby.
There were also a couple of reports of an elk in the area of Blue Heron Elementary School in Jefferson County. The elk walked onto the property of the attached park next to the school but he or she didn’t visit the playground.
