Collection Drive Held In Honor Of Theater Shooting Victim
DENVER (CBS4) - One of the women shot and killed in the theater shooting in Aurora was remembered Saturday.
Before her death Jessica Ghawi wanted to help victims of the Colorado wildfires by collecting and distributing hockey equipment. On Saturday her friends and family helped make that dream come true. They organized a collection drive for hockey equipment and all sporting equipment for those in need.
Denver Nuggets players along with Colorado Avalanche players helped out at the drive outside the Pepsi Center.
Ghawi's parents say their daughter wanted to help victims recover. They called the response tremendous.
"To see a community pull together to find the good and to find the light in the darkness is really very moving and special," Ghawi's mother said. "This is a very, very special town."
The sports equipment was collected by the nonprofit group A Precious Child. Monetary donations will benefit the Jessica Ghawi Sports Scholarship Fund.
