Fallen Soldier From Windsor Honored

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - The state honored soldier Christopher Birdwell from Windsor on Friday. He died in Afghanistan last month.

Hundreds of people packed the Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland to say goodbye to Staff Sgt. Birdwell. The Army says he was gunned down by an Afghan solider who turned on him.

Friends and family called Birdwell one of America's best who loved adventure and always had a smile. His brother talked about the incredible loss.

"Because of his life, the way he chose to live, he made a difference in our lives," Dustin Birdwell said. "In some way, Chris Birdwell has impacted your life, and so I ask that you remember who he was, and always how he made a difference in your life."

Birdwell was buried Friday afternoon at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors. He enlisted in the Army when he turned 18. He died at the age of 25.
