BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) – Police say a man allegedly set merchandise on fire and threatened customers in a Walmart in Broomfield on Monday.
Around 1:46 p.m. Broomfield police and North Metro Fire Rescue were dispatched to a report of a possible menacing and visible flames inside the Walmart located in the 4600 block of West 121st Avenue.
“Responding officers took a 28-year-old Broomfield man into custody without incident,” police said in a statement. “Initial investigation revealed the male set some clothes on fire in the store and threatened two shoppers with a knife.”
The store was evacuated.
“We look over and there’s flames going on … and everybody’s like, ‘What’s going on?’ ” witness Dominique Le’Nior said. “Some people were running, some were freaking out, some were like, ‘Can I get my groceries?’ “
No injuries were reported and there wasn’t much damage to the store.
Police are still investigating and haven’t released more details.
