Suspect Shot, Killed After Standoff With Police In Wheat Ridge

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A man shot by police after a nine-hour standoff in Wheat Ridge has died.

A CBS4 photographer was on scene as it was happening Tuesday night. Police told him a man barricaded himself in a bathroom at the Ramada Inn located in the 4700 block of Kipling Road claiming he had a weapon.

Police said Gary Haney, 40, repeatedly made statements that if he could not be freed, he would only leave the hotel in a body bag.

Officers evacuated guests while they negotiated with the Haney. He came out around 10:30 p.m. and officers shot him.

"Haney made aggressive and threatening movements towards officers and was subsequently shot by police," police said in a statement.

Haney was a known felon whose criminal history includes arrests across multiple states for everything from traffic violations, probation and drug violations, theft and aggravated robbery.
