Echo Mountain Ski Area Sold At Auction

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Echo Mountain ski area has been sold at auction to a company planning to turn it into a ski racing and training center.

Pykkonen Capital LLC bought the property west of Denver on Tuesday and plans have the Front Range Ski Club based at the mountain when it opens in November.

Nora Pykkonen told The Denver Post she first became interested in buying the area because her children were spending too much time driving to ski resorts farther away to train.

Echo Mountain is located west of Denver and is one of the few ski resorts entirely on private land, allowing more flexibility over operations.

The area had decent snow and strong ticket sales this past winter, with revenue climbing 30 percent and daily ticket sales up 50 percent.
