Police Honor Taxi Drivers For Helping Fight Crime
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police officers on Tuesday recognized some crime fighting taxi drivers with the Taxis on Patrol program.
Over the past year the program has now expanded to 30 agencies across the Denver metro area.
Officers describe the taxi drivers as a roving neighborhood watch.
"There have been hundreds of incidents that have been recorded through the program and they've been able to help us interdict crimes in progress, including hit-and-runs, homicides, sex assaults, robberies and other crimes," an officer at the news conference said.
Some individual drivers were honored for their heroism on Tuesday. Many awards were accepted by representatives of the cab companies because the actual drivers were on the road.
