Cyclist Struck In Hit & Run Died From Injuries

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- The bicyclist involved in a hit and run on Wednesday near the intersection of S. Wadsworth Blvd. and W. Ohio Ave. has died from his injuries.

Police in Lakewood arrested the driver they believe was involved a short time later. Officers claim Catherine Marie Bean left the scene.

The man has been identified as Kenneth W. Kienzle of Lakewood.

Police received a call at about 4:44 a.m. about a man lying in the road on S. Wadsworth Blvd. just south of W. Ohio Ave. That man was Kienzle, 58. He was rushed to St. Anthony West Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Less than an hour after the man was discovered in the street, Bean, 22, called police and said she believed she may have been in an accident.

Police responded to the area of 620 S. Vance St. where they contacted Bean and arrested her. The vehicle believed to be involved in the accident was also recovered at the location.

Bean was booked on charges of vehicular assault, driving under the influence, careless driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. She remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.

Now that Kienzle has died police will amend the initial charges to include vehicular homicide.
