Mayor Hancock Excited About U.S. Patent Office Opening In Denver

DENVER (CBS4)- The U.S. Department of Commerce has chosen a downtown Denver location for the region's new U.S. Patent and Trademark satellite office.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is applauding the location selection and what it means for the Denver metro area.

"Denver is very proud to become the official home of the new U.S. Patent office. But this is truly a win for our entire region and because of our teamwork we are bringing a $440 million economic opportunity to all our residents," said Hancock in a statement.

The Department of Commerce will begin hiring board judges and patent examiners in the next few months.

"We are a region that is growing exponentially more entrepreneurial by the day, championing innovation that is elevating us within the global economy. This new patent office acknowledges the leaps and bounds the metro region has made to become a national hub for innovation and will significantly expand Colorado's high-tech sectors from here," said Hancock.
