DENVER (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Denver pharmacy has agreed to pay $87,500 in fines to settle allegations that it violated laws meant to help keep drugs out of the hands of abusers or street dealers.

Cornell Prescription Pharmacy doesn’t admit any liability by settling. It says it settled to avoid the uncertainty and expense of further litigation.

It had been accused of failing to keep accurate records on distribution of controlled substances, failing to report suspicious orders of controlled substances to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and failing to ship controlled substances only to the purchaser and the location authorized by the DEA registration.

Prosecutors said Thursday that Cornell has agreed to hire a compliance officer for three years and to comply with additional reporting requirements about its distribution of controlled substances.
