Marijuana Ad Limit Awaits Final Vote In Denver

DENVER (AP) - A ban on some kinds of medical marijuana advertising is up for a final vote in Denver.

The Denver City Council plans a final decision Monday on an ordinance to prohibit most kinds of outdoor marijuana ads. Billboards, bus-stop placards and roadside sign spinners would all be banned.

The measure would still allow print ads and radio and television ads, but they would have to include the disclaimer that marijuana products are for registered Colorado medical marijuana patients only.

A preliminary version of the ad ban passed 13-0 last week. Some marijuana businesses support the ban because they say some advertising feeds a perception that marijuana is being used recreationally. Other marijuana businesses say the ban goes too far and hurts small shops that can't afford newspaper or radio ads.
